Did you know that in addition to regular products, we sell clearance and surplus batches that are at risk of being thrown away? Hundreds of kilos of food are unnecessarily thrown in the trash every week as consumers blindly stare at expiration dates. These clearance batches were also at risk of becoming waste. Reducing food waste is one of the best environmental acts we can do together. We believe that perfectly edible food is meant to be eaten – not thrown in the trash.
Urjalan Makeistukku is Finland's first online store specializing in surplus food. We mainly sell products that are otherwise at risk of becoming waste. By buying our clearance batches, you save money, reduce food waste in Finland, and shrink the carbon footprint caused by unnecessarily produced food! Our clearance batches may include products with a short "best before" date or that have already passed it, as well as products that have been removed from sale due to overproduction, incorrect labeling, packaging updates, or other reasons.
The "best before" date is the minimum shelf life provided by the manufacturer, essentially a guarantee that the product maintains the same quality as at the time of manufacture. Food can be perfectly edible even after this date. We do not sell products labeled with a "use by" date.
